Ascending Scale - a scale played in an upwards moving motion
Aural tradition - Passed down from generation to generation

Crescendo - (backwards hairpin) Gradually getting louder

Diminuendo (The Hair Pin) - Gradually getting softer
Flattened 7th - 7th note of the scale is flattened e.g ; C D E F G A Bb C

Key Signature - tells us if there are sharps or flats
Largo - slowly
Melody - the tune
Moderato - Moderate speed
Mood - how the music makes you feel
Move by step - step up or down the scale
Move by leap - jump up or down the scale
Octave - a range of 8 notes e.g C - C, or E -E
Ornamentation - added otes to decorate the melody
Opera - Theatrical music with a stage, singing and acting
Ostinato - a repeated musical phrase or rhythm
Pitch - How high or low a piece of music sounds
Range - From the lowest note to the highest note
Rhythm - the beats that are used
Scale - e.g: Scale of C major - C D E F G A B C
Semitone - a half step
Slide - On a trombone, changes the notes
Stave - where music is written. 5 lines on 4 spaces
Style - Type of song / music e.g Pop/ rock/ classical

Time Signature - shows how many beats are in a bar
